Volunteering at The London Marathon 2017

A few weeks ago our friend John over at mentioned to us that he was volunteering at the London Marathon for Dreams come true charity and asked if we wanted to join him. As we have never volunteered before we thought he would be the best person to do our first volunteering event with and the fact that it was at the London Marathon sold us as we always watch it on TV every year and always think it's so inspiring.

Dreams Come True is a UK children's charity. Their mission is quite simply to enrich the lives of children and young people with serious and life-limiting conditions across the country by making their dreams come true. Over the last 25 years they have fulfilled dreams for more than 5,000 children and young people as well as their friends, family and carers.

When we read about the charity we loved the idea and the concept behind it and wanted to do what we could to help even if it was volunteering our time for the day to cheer the runners on.

We were placed at mile 25 at The Embankment which is the second to last mile before the finish line at mile 26 and the atmosphere was buzzing just how we imagined it would be.  At times it was quite emotional watching the runners with such determination. It was great to cheer the runners on when they were so close to the end to get them to the finish line.  We really enjoyed the day and volunteering and we would definitely volunteer more in the future.

The marathon has motivated us to possibly take part in some smaller runs and maybe one day we will be running The London Marathon so watch this space.

Have you volunteered at The London Marathon before or have you taken part?
Let us know below.
